Trauma

Dr. Ranasinghe has extensive expertise in helping individuals heal from the overwhelming impact of trauma. His work addresses a wide range of traumatic experiences, from childhood adversities and domestic violence to issues like PTSD and moral injury. He provides a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where clients can process their experiences without feeling overwhelmed, focusing on building a sense of safety and control. Remembering that "Trauma isn't what happened to you, it's how it made you feel" informs his practice in establishing safety in the here and now. His experiences in the military prompted him to seek a doctorate in psychology so that he may better help people looking for their sense of safety and security in the world.

Anxiety and Depression

Dr. Ranasinghe approaches anxiety and depression not as mere symptoms to be managed but as important signals with valuable messages. He conceptualizes these conditions as the body's way of communicating that a person may be overexerting themselves or feeling ill-equipped to meet internal or external demands. In his practice, he helps clients explore the root causes of their feelings of being down, unmotivated, or constantly worried. He provides tools and insights to work through painful thoughts and emotions, preventing these conditions from defining a person's life. His goal is to empower clients to listen to these signals, address the underlying issues, and find renewed joy and motivation.

Neurodiversity

As a clinician who was diagnosed with ADHD later in life, Dr. Ranasinghe brings a deeply personal and professional understanding to his work with neurodivergent individuals, including those with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD) and Autism. He is passionate about moving beyond a deficit-based model to a strengths-based approach. He recognizes that neurodivergence presents a unique set of challenges but also brings distinct strengths. Dr. Ranasinghe helps clients explore their unique neurodivergent journey, providing support for gaining self-understanding. He is also passionate about advocating for accommodations in academic or professional settings, and improving communication with family and partners. He fosters a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their challenges and celebrate their unique way of taking space in the world.

Burnout and Existentialism

Dr. Ranasinghe's unique background, including a Master's in Business Administration, allows him to deeply understand the pressures of corporate life and the resulting burnout. He helps clients navigate the overwhelming feelings of exhaustion, cynicism, and ineffectiveness that often accompany high-stress careers. Beyond addressing the immediate symptoms, he guides clients in a process of existential exploration and meaning-making. This is especially relevant when a person's identity is tied to their professional role. Dr. Ranasinghe helps clients find a renewed sense of purpose and self-worth beyond their work, enabling them to create a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.
